International Conference on Creating, Connecting and Collaborating through Computing (C5)

C5 International ConferenceThe International Conference on Creating, Connecting and Collaborating through Computing (C5), is coming up, hosted by Calit2 in late January.

This conference will be an exciting opportunity for members of the CineGrid community to interact with the collaborative software community.

Registration is quite inexpensive – under $200 (we try to make it very attractive and affordable for students) and the conference is extremely interactive.  This will be the first time in five years the conference is held in the USA, and its location is obviously convenient to many CineGrid members.

World Opera Report - 2009

Opportunities and Challenges at the World Opera

In this CineGrid Special Report, Nathan Brock reports on the second annual World Opera Symposium held in Struer, Denmark this May. A group of aspiring singers in the Metropolitan Opera training program sang duets with professional singers under the baton of well-known conductor Niels Muus. After taking pitch from the piano, the conductor launched into the first piece on the program, a duet from Porgy and Bess. With minimal effort, the singers sang the number, with one eye on the conductor and the other on their duet partner. What made this afternoon special? One of the singers was in New York City, and the other was in Denmark.

CENIC AWARDS to Calit2 and USC

Two CineGrid members win CENIC awards

We originally wrote that one member won a CENIC award this year, but when we read more on the CENIC site, we saw that two CineGrid members won - UCSD/Calit2 and USC/SCA. Recap/explanation of award and contact for Tom DeFanti and Richard Weinberg follows.
